We started off Term 2 with the arrival of the New Zealand Reciprocal Tour on Saturday 17th April. We shared the billeting duties with Kogarah RSL Youth Club. The New Zealand members attended our Commemoration Sunday March and Service on Sunday 18th. On Monday 19th they went out to Kokoda Track Memorial Walkway at Homebush where they were met by our Sub Branch President Mr Lloyd Birdsall who was able to share his memories and provided an insight into our Australian heritage.
Special thanks to the Cheung, Eade, Foley, Guy, Power and Sisak Families who opened their hearts and homes and made the New Zealand visitors feel very welcome. Without their support our Youth Club would not have been able to co-host these members and we would have missed out on meeting the most wonderful group of young people. (Special Tour newsletter to follow)
Reciprocal Tour to New Zealand 2011 The Reciprocal Tour is an exchange programme between the NSW RSL Youth Club Members and Members of RSA of New Zealand every second year. The two countries are linked by a common heritage in ANZAC Day.
The Tour Party consists of 30 Youth Club members and 3 Officials, Tour Manager, Assistant Manager and Chaperone. The Tour lasts approximately 14 days and is organised by the Reciprocal Tour Committee of Youth Council. Selection of ambassadors is very strict and deep consideration is given to the choice of Youth Club members, who are chosen for the tour.
It is the aim of the Tour programme to forge a common bond of heritage, share ideas and to build new and everlasting friendships. It broadens their outlook and strengthens youth and Youth Clubs in each country.
We have a total of 24 nominations for the tour to New Zealand next year. A reminder to these members that completed forms and resume must be returned by Saturday 8th May.
Exodus Gold Coin DonationIt was a very disappointing collection this year with only $87 collected across the whole Youth Club which has more than 200 members. We will hold onto this money and deliver the cheque with the items from the Canned Food Drive in June (12th-27th). |

Commemoration Sunday 18th & ANZAC Day Sunday 25th AprilThe following Youth Club Members marched proudly at Commemoration Sunday and ANZAC Day Marches. A special mention to Megan Harte and Joel Wallbank-Hutton for their personal and moving speeches at the Commemoration Sunday Service. We received many positive comments on our members outstanding appearance and their exemplary behaviour at both of these events.Being a member of Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Youth Club is more than just attending lessons, it is about being part of the wider community. Our members who do attend these Marches experience the ANZAC tradition first hand, they feel a sense of pride as they march alongside our service men and women, listen to their stories and learn about our history.Commemoration SundayIssabella Addouj, Grace Angus, Kia Angus, Eliza Bain, Shauna Barham, Clancy Barry-Byrnes, Lyndsey Barry-Byrnes, Elizabeth Cheung, Lauren Cheung, Nicholas Devane, Pamela Di Chiara, Melina Di Chiara, Helen Eade, Jessica Lee Foley, Nicholas Foley, Alanah Guy, Megan Harte, Sofie Harte, Katherine Hennessy, Lalita Hicks, Shyanne Hicks, Taliyah Hicks, Elizabeth Klansek, Natasha Klansek, Ethan Moxham , Mikhala Moxham, Zoe Moxham, Katelyn Power, Talena Saumaitoga, Viktoria Sisak, Grace Sixsmith, Angus Sutherland, Skye Sutherland, Lara Tripolone, Nikki Tromboukis, Yianna Tromboukis, Claudia Tumino, Isabella Tumino, Anastasia Tzerbos, Konstantina Tzerbos, Kristie Vranjkovic, Natali Vranjkovic, Joel Wallbank-Hutton, Mikayla Walsh, Cameron Whicker, Holly Whicker, Troy Whicker, Madeleine Whitby, Madison Williams, Kelsey Woodhouse.ANZAC DayLilyana Abram, Issabella Addouj, Grace Angus, Kia Angus, Eliza Bain, Lauren Barham, Shauna Barham, Monique Capo, Elizabeth Cheung, Lauren Cheung, Vanessa Colubriale, Helen Eade, Jessica Lee Foley, Nicholas Foley, Alanah Guy, Katherine Hennessy, Shyanne Hicks, Taliyah Hicks, Elizabeth Klansek, Natasha Klansek, Ophelia Lockwood-McCann, Ethan Moxham, Mikhala Moxham, Zoe Moxham, Katelyn Power, Lara Tripolone, Kristie Vranjkovic, Natali Vranjkovic, Joel Wallbank-Hutton, Holly Whicker, Cameron Whicker, Madeleine Whitby, Madison Williams, Kelsey WoodhouseThanks to you all for taking the time to participate and represent our Youth Club at these very solemn occasions. Salvation Army –Red Shield Appeal Sunday 30 May
Canterbury Hurlstone Park R.S.L Youth Club has once again been invited to participate in the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Door Knock Appeal.
The Red Shield Appeal is a nationwide fundraising appeal to meet the needs of many community service programmes. Such as beds for the homeless , meals for the hungry , food vouchers, counselling & support for youth addicted to drugs or alcohol.
It is vital that as a Youth Club we maintain our strong ties to the local community, assisting with Door Knock Appeal is one way the Youth Club fulfils this commitment.
