RSL Youth Club

24th August 2008

We welcomed our many guests into the Starlight Auditorium from our youngest   member (3) and some Foundation Youth Club Members, Life Members, Directors, Sub Branch, Past Committee Members and President of Youth Council.

The room was filled with jovial voices and laughter as friends were reunited, stories shared,  tables of memorabilia with some of the first  trophies ever awarded on display, PowerPoint show of black and white photos of years gone by - The First Comedy Act, Boxing,  Swimming, Dancing, Gymnastics our students marching on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day up to the present time with colour photos showing the current members in all their glory. There were many gasps, squeals, pointing up at the screen with loud cheers as some of the    current  instructors and older students were shown in their early years with the Youth Club. Spirits were high in preparation for the show.

Gymnastics opened our show with an explosion of colour and movement. Energetic leaps, flips, bounds and springs filled the stage. Laughter could be heard as they worked their way through these fast paced routines which were set to some well chosen music that had everyone moving.

A little formal pause in proceedings as Mr Neville Brown , President CHP RSL Club was called upon with our two youngest members to cut the anniversary cake and what a pretty picture that made.

Dance followed with a variety of disciplines Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop, some of our  youngest groups also sharing a song. Bedazzling costumes and broad smiles were on show as the children glided effortlessly through the routines.

The Finale was a spectacular performance from two former Youth Club members Jason and Christopher Lewis. Along with other members of their group The Next Step they wowed the audience with a dynamic fusion of Tap, Hip Hop and Break dance.

I believe the day was a great success the room was buzzing as people filed out of the Auditorium. Our many thanks must start with the children of the Youth Club their enthusiasm shone through in their  performances * To all the Instructors and their  assistants the students are a credit to you, thank you for all your efforts, time and of course the dedication * To the parents and siblings of our current Youth Club Members who made the time for the additional rehearsals and all their families and friends for being there to share the celebration * To our behind the scenes men Paul (President of YC) and Jimmy Bower for moving and setting up of the gym equipment * The Youth Club Committee for all their support and assistance leading up to and especially on the day * To all of our guests on the day thanks for sharing our day with us and making it one to remember!
